Manilla Road - Gates of Fire

Genre: Epic Heavy Metal
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2005
Label: Battle Cry Records

Manilla Road is a band that should require no introduction. There really isn't anything I could possibly write that could do this masterpiece justice. Gates of Fire is, in my opinion, the band's best album (yes, I even prefer it to the classic Crystal Logic), and is a great way to discover this epic, timeless band.  I cannot believe the music at hand even fit inside a plastic disc.  The riffs are colossal, the vocals are mighty, the drumming is oceanic, and the production pulls it all together perfectly. Top it off with triple concept lyrics (songs 1-3 are about Robert E. Howard's The Frost Giant's Daughter, songs 4-6 are about Virgil's Aenid, and songs 7-9 are about the Battle of Thermopylae) and a musical atmosphere that compliments them all beautifully, and you have another Manilla Road classic on your hands - one that somehow manages to surpass the genius catalogue that precedes it.  Mark "the Shark" Shelton and Co. have outdone themselves with this one. I could go on and on about how incredible it is, but I'll just stop now and let you find out for yourself. This is true heavy metal at its finest, and easily one of my favourite albums of all time. Up the hammers!

For fans of Cirith Ungol, Doomsword, Ironsword, and Omen.
